Being LGBT isn’t exceptional. And yet in a world that treats queer and trans people as “ideologies,” we have to fight as if we are. We gain rights by being “deserving” and acceptance by being “respectable.” But we shouldn’t have to always act like we’re in a job interview to be visible and safe.
