we went to a karaoke bar in a tunnel in the canal. it felt a bit ninja turtles, but the actual room was nice. i had a drink that was titled simply “pink” and cleared out the cobwebs in my throat. the lyrics were so garbled, grains of sand became queens of sin, and we laughed. worth it just for that

i had to take active shooter training a couple of times when i lived in alaska. i think it broke something in me to view every public place as a potential target for a massacre. i imagined dying over and over again, looking for a way to achieve something meaningful in the uncaring eyes of death.
