This is a slightly awkward subject to discuss, but it's very relevant here, and also an important dynamic to understand in internationalism in Kurdistan. A group of foreigners with specific political views have gained influence over recruitment and are using it to recruit others with those views.
If you're going to Rojava/DAANES, avoid the Internationalist Youth Commune. They are a deliberately hostile space to women & queers, & have encouraged sexual violence against visitors.
