Unless the new trick is making the subway free (it's not) I bet they won't!
Subway and bus fare evasion cost New York City’s transit system nearly $1 billion last year. Will an arsenal of new tricks turn things around? trib.al/BzbS2FD

Infinite money calculation must have gotten a sign wrong somewhere along the way. Embarrassing, but can happen to anyone.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

if your story on Elon musk's robots doesn't mention the very real possibility that thus is all stock fluffing vaporware somewhere in the first four paragraphs you are not doing journalism
Elon Musk says Optimus will be an 'incredible surgeon'
Musk said Optimus could become an"infinite money glitch" capable of driving Tesla's profits to new heights.

Again, this is a liquidation of the union in all but letter of the law. This is reverse secessionism engineered by a central government.
NEW: White House announces it's going to pause, and potentially cancel, $11 billion in infrastructure funding (via the Army Corps of Engineers), specifically citing cities, like New York, represented or led by Democrats. More to come.

we should all go out on October 18 and it's good that so many of us are planning to. but we should all start talking to each other about what we're going to do next, too - what we will withhold together if the abuses continue. we can go on offense, too!

NEW: Israel informed the UN it will permit only 300 aid trucks into Gaza daily, not the 600 mandated by the ceasefire it just signed.

Not an expert in this field by any means, but David Graeber's account of this period is compelling. Cortes and the conquistadors were in debt up to their eyeballs and had to keep turning to new frontiers (and subjugating/enslaving their people) to satisfy their creditors.

I seem to recall a plausible thesis that they like trump and want him to rule us like a king
A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.
