This is what I've been saying for a long time,,,
Yeah that's grading on... a pretty steep curve. I don't think "we commit slightly less severe war crimes when ordered to commit war crimes" is a theme of aspiring to kindness, it reads more as a commentary on the hollow futility of trying to be One Of The Good Ones when you're an officer of the SS.
The Salamanders are the closest to kind a space marine can get, they prioritize minimizing civilian casualties and are even allowed to spend time with their actual families
