Today, the German Research Foundation @dfg.de announced the funding decisions for the Clusters of Excellence. #UniSysCat will not be funded beyond 2025. Nevertheless, #catalysis research will continue to be a key area of scientific area in Berlin.

Since 2011, we have annually awarded the Clara Immerwahr Award to an excellent young female scientist for her outstanding research in the field of catalysis. The award is dedicated to Dr. Clara Immerwahr, who was the first woman in Germany to earn a doctorate in Physical Chemistry in 1900.

Metalloradical-driven enzymatic CO2 reduction by a dynamic Ni–Fe cluster
Nature Catalysis, Published online: 01 August 2025; doi:10.1038/s41929-025-01388-5The mechanism by which the [NiFe4S4] cluster of carbon monoxide dehydrogenases (CODHs) catalyses CO2 reduction is poorly understood. Now the structures of all catalytically relevant states of a CODH are solved, revealing the dynamics of the cluster during turnover and the role of Ni in CO2 activation.
