Marsha P. Johnson (1945-1992) was an activist who's actions during the Stonewall riots is ultimately what lead up to Pride.

She was more than a brick thrower, though, she helped out people in her community by offering housing and food to folks that were kicked out for being lgbtqia.

The Freedmen's Bureau provided relief to freed slaves from 1865 to 1872 despite the likes of Andrew Johnson trying to take it away due to it "encroaching on states rights" and "capable of making black people lazy" (sound familiar?).

Definitely worth looking up in your spare time.
