What blows my mind is that someone thought it was a good idea to teach people to read by looking everywhere *but* the specific word they're supposed to read.
The "try pronouncing the first sound" part is insult to injury, considering that's the first step of phonics.

My least favorite rule in dodgeball was that "If an opponent catches your ball, you're out."
