Good news: a grant I submitted got selected for an interview out of ~150 apps. Only 2 others got interviews!

Bad news: @skypeascientist.bsky.social was not selected in the end 😞

I will keep trying.

In the meantime, consider supporting our work with $5-10/month?

Cool blog post by @smakris.bsky.social on a super collaborative project to learn more about eruptions and pyroclastic density currents at Volcán de Fuego in Guatemala. Was great to join in the field--now looking forward to helping with paleomagnetic analyses soon!

Geopeople (of any discipline)! What are your favorite or most useful phone/tablet apps to use in the field? I'm teaching about field tools and methods and want to present some modern alternatives/complements to traditional equipment! Or if anyone has ever seen a list of such apps, let me know!

Back from fieldwork in Guatemala looking at PDC deposits from Fuego for our @ukri.org project exploring generation mechanisms. We had a great time in the field as a team bringing together many skills and experiences. Excited to continue working on this also with those who weren’t in the field!

I’ve worked in an all male science department for 10 years and in my experience, the men don’t even know they’re doing it. (This is not an excuse by the way, just an explanation of what I’ve observed.)

Here’s what I have experienced and witnessed:
Reading a book that points out how many women go into science communication and art because they’re actively pushed out of academic science by men who then take women’s findings and ideas as their own

yeah this is sounding familiar.

There are still a lot of steps and potential changes ahead before it becomes one. This is not a time to sit quietly, team. Let's go.
