We are the local history museum for Twickenham, Whitton, the Hampton and Teddington. Open Friday and Saturday 11-3pm and Sunday 2-4pm. FREE entry.
Did you know that in the 18th century ‘people of quality’ thought nothing of drinking their tea out of a cup or eating off a plate decorated with large creepy crawlies & other insects? Sometimes the insects would even be given shadows to make them more realistic! Newly on display

Just turned up to open the museum and found this lovely clay tobacco pipe left by a member of the public on the doorstep.

Probably found on the banks of the Thames. Looks Victorian

And this is why we love local history!

Behind door no. 16 of my advent calendar are 2 #Wedgewood vessels. The first is a black basalt Egyptian pastille burner, the bowl supported by 3 Egyptian term-like figures with pharaoh heads wearing nemes head dresses. The 2nd is on a tripod stand with dolphin legs. Both early 19th century.

Original wooden water pipe from Hampton Court Palace

This was donated to Gerald Heath between 1960-1970
The wooden waterpipe dates from the time of Henry VIlI when he had water transported to Hampton Court Palace for baths. It was from the right hand side of the Palace.

Did you know the reason we display a lovely model of Hampton Court Palace? The old "Borough of Twickenham" was an independent municipal borough created in 1926 & in 1937 was extended to include Hampton, Hampton Wick & Teddington.
In 1965 it become part of the new LBRuT.
