Agents like this should be identified and their name and picture posted on a searchable web site with videos and content like this linked to their names
A woman recording an ICE agent tells him "Shame on you."

The agent responds, "Have you all not learned from the past couple of days?"

"Learned what?" she asks

Then he knocks her phone out of her hand

This is exactly right.

They haven't settled for dim brutes who blindly follow orders regardless of the law. That's what they want. That's what they got. There's no reforming or improving it now.

Democrats need to investigate, defund, and ultimately disband the president's brownshirt brigade.
People might argue that ICE is not recruiting quality agents.

But I would insist that they are in fact successfully recruiting the exact sort of person needed to carry out the mission: reactionary, angry, violent people who don’t believe in democracy.

Everybody should watch this and see this woman, who has a baby in her arms and is thrust into basically a standoff, develop courage in real time.

now thinking about that fire Chou Tofu I had a week ago and missing #Taiwan
I do think it’s always a bit of a smell to have compiled code sitting around where an human might see it, but sometimes good things smell bad so this is more art than science for sure.

Yeah, it's part of that whole high dimension constraint satisfaction! Sometimes there's no way to satisfy everything, and you need to choose the least bad option. There's a lot of skill and judgement in that

I simply do not believe there is any moral goodness in manual labor when you can automate it away. The moral goodness lies in the act of automating it away, freeing one to follow other pursuits

and i'm not the first to say this, but it is a grave mistake that folks want to cede an important technology to the right

we fight for technology so that we can direct it towards good ends. we don't just let the other side take good tools because we don't like how they use those tools

a thing i've been thinking about posting for a long time is "back in those days, the workers didn't say "eww factories were created by capitalists to enrich capitalists, we should abandon factories" they said "we should seize them and direct their output for the good of humanity"

This is a big difference between software and art. A lot of art is done for its own sake. Software is mostly not done for that—it is a means to solve problems and make people's lives better. (A lot of software makes people's lives worse, but the problem there is the software, not how it was written)

To me, software engineering is about solving high dimension constraint satisfaction problems through creative insights, with the overall goal being to solve real problems. Spending 2 days resolving merge conflicts is a thing I've done in the past. I've gotten no value, no insight from it

I've been sitting with the discomfort here a bunch, and to me this is it, right? What is being suggested is that I engage in an act of self-flagellation (resolving thousands of lines of merge conflicts by hand) because the richest man in the world uses some of the same underlying tech to peddle CSAM
This is a miracle. Do you know how many hours of work this saves me

i think a core beef that i have with a lot of this "automation is bad" sentiment lately is that there is no inherent moral good in laboring

the story of humanity is one of invention, where we improve our conditions by building things that help us do more things more easily

I cannot express how incredibly vapid it is for @chatterton.bsky.social to be essentially resorting to civility discourse when the thing we are talking about is an armed agent of the state shooting a woman to death in broad daylight, confident that his thug regime will protect him from justice.

rw press is using the fact that the shooter, an immigration officer, is married to a much younger recent Filipino immigrant whom he apparently met in the Phillipines as proof that he is not a racist. that is not what i would determine from that fact pattern. i would FOIA 911 calls at his address.

I hope they all starve in mounds of their own excrement in freezing ditches.

It’s merely what they want for others.
Something tells me come 2029 there are going to be a whole lot of chuds trying to get jobs with strange three-to-four year resume gaps from 2025 to 2028.

I'm sure they'll complain that it is 'reverse racism' when no one wants to hire them.
