We used @sciam.bsky.social's 180th anniversary as an excuse to revisit an old favorite. Familiar with the efficiency of locomotion chart from the March 1973 issue? Here it is again, reimagined for 2025 by DTAN Studio, w/text by @parshallison.bsky.social 📊 🧪 www.scientificamerican.com/article/a-hu...

🧠 Why do our brains absorb data better when it is visually pleasing?

Earlier this year, at our #EUOpenDataDays, @tulpinteractive.com showed us how visual design shapes the way we perceive data.

Great original idea!!!
I had an idea yesterday about making a word search that, when solved, would be a data visualization.

So, I coded it up... and it worked!

This shows abundance of three bird species in Brooklyn Bridge Park over a year.

It feels like there are some fun possibilities here.

1. Bluesky doesn’t downrank links
2. You can choose your own algorithm from among thousands
3. The whole app is open source

This keeps it a free and open platform by design, leading to better click-throughs and traffic to your site.

We 💙 the open web.

Our Rowboat tool is about instantly seeing what's in a dataset, so we added a Chrome Extension that lets you open random datasets from all over the internet. Right click, poof! 0.2 seconds later we see what this dataset actually looks like.

No workspace to set up, no waiting for the app, no db.

Working on the concept for a talk now, and even though chatGPT helps me, I would never let chatGPT write a full talk concept because it's simply not the quality level, not enough eye for detail and overall consistency that I would require. Just so you know ;-)

I sometimes re-watch @adobe.com 's #ProjectLincoln presentation from 2017 youtu.be/lX1BBMyY1bc?... But I must say, I always feel slightly offended when the host remarks: "... this is the first time I hear a crowd cheer for a data visualization..." 😁 #dataviz

I must say, vibe coding something very interactive and very custom, even though I am impressed by #Claude Sonnet 4, not all solutions work (even after multiple attempts), complex (working) solutions, code duplication, no sense of overall intention.

Good coding skills are still relevant here... #AI
