Attention visual journalists: I’m always open to pitches for @sciam.bsky.social’s Graphic Science column. The column tells concise stories on topics in science via graphics (dataviz, illustrated diagrams, comic-style explainers, etc). It appears in both print & online. DM me for a pitch guide.

The Post was foolish enough to unleash a bevy of the world’s most talented multi-disciplinary journalists out there for their competition to scoop up. These are some of the most hard working and skilled people I know.

Save this one and reshare it please! 📊

The Washington Post layoff news yesterday had enough comments about its wrong-headedness, no need for more, but my word, other newsrooms need to be racing to put their bids on the table for some of the prime talent now looking for new roles. I mean, Tim Meko, seriously, form a queue!
News: I was cut yesterday in a newsroom-wide layoff affecting 300+ staff at The Washington Post.

I spent the last decade leading and building the award-winning Graphics team. I'll miss them.

I'm now exploring senior graphics, cartography, or leadership roles. Intros welcome.

Hitting your ears/eyes tomorrow is a new 'Explore Explain' show with the brilliant @chazhutton.com as we reflect on the creative thinking behind and craft of being a cartoonist - and what we in dataviz can learn. One of my favourite episodes, watch out for it launching!

Coming up to 16 years of running my website means 16 years of relentless spurious seo/outreach messaging.

One day I might just relent and embark on a content-collab pivot so wildly different from data viz it causes whiplash.
