We just shipped a desktop version of Rowboat that runs fully offline: rowboat.net
It's silly fast, the app loads almost instantly, and you can plunk a multiple gigabyte dataset into it and it just starts spilling out answers.
Lots more in the pipeline; try it out and send us your feedback!

We just launched a desktop version of Rowboat!
* Open much larger files (offline!)
* Own Desktop as a one-time purchase.
* Use a double-clickable app that’s even faster than the web version.
Browser or desktop, your data never leaves your machine.

Macroscopes help us see the invisible connections that tie our world together
An ode to the data visualization tools that help us see what is too vast, complex, or interconnected for the naked eye.

🧠 Why do our brains absorb data better when it is visually pleasing?
Earlier this year, at our #EUOpenDataDays, @tulpinteractive.com showed us how visual design shapes the way we perceive data.

Great original idea!!!
I had an idea yesterday about making a word search that, when solved, would be a data visualization.
So, I coded it up... and it worked!
This shows abundance of three bird species in Brooklyn Bridge Park over a year.
It feels like there are some fun possibilities here.

2. You can choose your own algorithm from among thousands
3. The whole app is open source
This keeps it a free and open platform by design, leading to better click-throughs and traffic to your site.

Our Rowboat tool is about instantly seeing what's in a dataset, so we added a Chrome Extension that lets you open random datasets from all over the internet. Right click, poof! 0.2 seconds later we see what this dataset actually looks like.
No workspace to set up, no waiting for the app, no db.

Working on the concept for a talk now, and even though chatGPT helps me, I would never let chatGPT write a full talk concept because it's simply not the quality level, not enough eye for detail and overall consistency that I would require. Just so you know ;-)
