Happy new year! One of my lemon pigs was pre-zested, so I hope that's not bad luck.

For those of us who pay quarterly taxes or any other payment by December 31, this unheralded change in postal policy can bite you in the butt. This could have other unforeseen consequences (e.g., mail-in balloting), but for now, this is more timely.

My sister's dog chewed up her favorite sweater so I told her I'd try mending it. I wasn't expecting much, especially since I was just freehanding it trying to knit shapes to match the holes, but it turned out so much cooler than expected!

There are “rules” in photography that you learn and then can break for visual effect. That is different than not knowing the rules. The former is very much what is happening here. Choices were made and they show the power of photography.
Oh my god y'all I had not seen the rest of the Vanity Fair photos holy shit. Christopher Anderson deserves a medal.

Look at this. He left the LIGHT SWITCHES in the edited photos! These assholes look like their well-meaning mom took a picture of them on their first day in a grown-up job.

Ken Paxton has launched a snitch line to gather reports of supposed violations of Texas' transphobic bathroom policing law. Please do not abuse this snitch line. Please do not fill it with faff and nonsense. Please do not attach huge, unwieldy and irrelevant documentation to any reports.

And I guess that makes even more sense in the context of what I told the guy from my first post above: I come from a long line of bad cooks so I just taught myself to cook when I was young.

Protip: you can put almond extract in anything. Growing up my sister and I would use it instead of vanilla in oatmeal cookies and pumpkin pie. Most actual recipes only use a tiny amount, but if a recipe uses vanilla extract, you can usually make it almond instead. If you like lots of almond flavor.

I mean, describing it like that I guess I can see why people got excited about it, but it's also the easiest cake recipe I know.

I guess almond extract is exotic now.

Lots of over the top compliments but no one asked for the recipe. If I didn't know it was good, it would seem like they're being mocking or patronizing.

Btw it's just a fudgy almond cake that tastes like a big slice of marzipan with crisp edges and chewy middle.

I brought a nice cake to my office holiday lunch and I'm just. Confused by the response to it?? Someone grilled me about whether I really made it, and then asked if I was a random ethnicity (not related to the cake but he said he'd expect it from someone of that ethnicity).

This one just had kids dancing in nightgowns and singing some kind of awful rock n roll Jesus medley while the parents sold cookies and punch. No petting zoo. Very disappointing. This is not how you get people to convert. Where are the donkeys???

Last night my (very Jewish) Mom wanted to go to a "live nativity" advertised in our neighborhood. There was a family who used to do it every year and they brought in donkeys and piglets for people to pet while they read Bible verses to us or something.
