I also think it’s the fact that he gives nothing at all to the “cities are the root of all evil” derangement that grips so much of politics and media. He wholeheartedly and unashamedly loves his city and doesn’t need the approval of a gaggle of misanthropic suburb-dwellers to say it.

I’m starting to wonder if looking genuinely happy and acting like you really love the city is a more effective way to campaign (and govern) than scowling about what a shithole the city is and how many more cops it will take to subdue it.
Outside Gracie Mansion. This is his job. But dare I day it he seems genuinely affected and happy to be there. There’s potentially immense power in that.

Finally watched ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER and... kinda didn't like it? For pretty much the same reason I didn't like the PTA/Pynchon collab INHERENT VICE. I found the wackiness and surreality of the story and dialogue to be off-putting rather than funny or cool.

INHERENT VICE is comfortably my least favorite PTA while OBAA I have only behind PHANTOM THREAD
I love bagels and for a long time I’d ask New York friends what their favorite bagel was and then I’d eat that bagel and not like it. Took a decade to realize there are no good New York bagels. Let’s argue about something that doesn’t matter.
Just finished my first rewatch of OBAA since seeing it in theaters and as much as I loved it I didn’t appreciate how good Regina Hall was the first time around. Great performance!!!
I’m at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards and Regina Hall and Delroy Lindo (pictured) have won their first awards of the season. Now that’s how you spread the wealth!

If you told me we had to avoid 100 instances of dog shit on our walk to the park and back this morning I’d say, well that seems low but I guess it might have only been 100

I have to be honest. this isn't meant to downplay the seriousness of what's happening now, and this isn't meant to be glib. But this is also how ALL cops act. The first time I got screamed at like this by a cop, I was 16, because of a traffic jam in the school parking lot. Every single one of them
I think it is probably a bad idea to put clearly unhinged, angry psychopaths in federal law enforcement positions.
