If you want to understand an extreme example, go watch the "All the World is Birthday Cake" episode of The Orville which brilliantly illustrates how stupid a society looks following this kind of nonsense.
Hot take: Generation designators (X, Millennial, Y) are dumb, and about as reliable a predictor of character, as the Zodiac. It’s just more tribalism that keeps us divided

If you have not yet watched The Orville, I highly recommend it. I'm a lifelong Trekkie, and The Orville is now my favorite sci-fi show.

In a 2017 Reddit AMA, MacFarlane noted that he chose the Orville name while writing the pilot episode and reading a biography of the Wright brothers, in which "there seemed to be some depiction of Orville as the 'beta' brother. Seemed like a good fit for our midlevel craft."

Unironically, The Orville is one of the best Star Trek inspired series out there. The authenticity it exudes was actually a surprise.

every time i see republicans ai generating videos about how great their candidates are or how bad their opponents are i think about how The Orville ran an episode like 3 years ago where political candidates were generating entirely untrue videos of their opponents being horrible people as propaganda

The Orville ist sehr empfehlenswert! Kommt erst als Star Trek Satire daher, greift dann aber tiefer in die Ethik-Kiste, als Star Trek es bisher gewagt hat.

I’m begging y’all to watch The Orville, the modern show most true to this Star Trek formula
people bitch about woke media but if TOS was on today they would go to a thinly-veiled MAGA planet where the locals worshipped guns and then kirk would hit the orange dictator with a two-fisted karate chop before giving a lecture about how science is real and violence is bad

Watching the first episode of Orville, this show is cool :o I like how they decided to use shuttles instead of transporter beams

Makes things riskier

(it was the Orville. it was well-meaning but often painful to begin with and got steadily better and better until it was really good Star Trek. huge respect to that show)

Some of my favorite episodes of The Orville were written by Brannon Braga and Andre Bormanis.
