We look out for trees in the Southwark wards of North and South Bermondsey, London Bridge and West Bermondsey, and Chaucer.
Exotic London! Five bright green ring-necked parakeets in a fig tree in # Bermondsey, Central London. Occasional visitors before, but the flock grows daily. Who else has noticed they are on the increase here? Very loud, very greedy and totally fearless!

When windy place an ear to the bark of a tree, & with a hand stop all noise entering the other ear

You can now concentrate on listening THROUGH the tree to the low rumble of the trunk & branches working with the wind

You can also feel the movement of the branches as they react

Thank you for the support! 🙏 We hope our case shines a light on a bigger problem nationwide in subsidence claims by insurers, and helps to draw the line for what communities expect from corporations like Aviva and from local authorities; a fair process with decisions founded on quality evidence

Please help our friends in Wivenhoe save their beautiful "Old King George" oak. This isn't just a local issue, but happening everywhere.
Wow. Since Monday, the campaign to stop 'Old King George,' our 170 year old oak tree in Wivenhoe from being chopped down, has now raised over £5,500. We need another £4.5k Please take a look and give if you can www.crowdjustice.com/case/save-wivenhoe-old-king-george-tree

We discovered microbes in bark ‘eat’ climate gases. This will change the way we think about trees
We already knew forests were heavy lifters in reducing climate pollution. New research reveals the tiny microbes in tree bark can also “eat” climate gases.

Plant a wildlife hedge instead of building a fence! It could help hedgehogs, bumblebees, blue tits, small mammals, insects, robins, frogs, fieldfares, bats, toads, butterflies, moths, blackbirds, solitary bees, wrens, hoverflies...

Habitats for frogs, toads & newts are in decline: 50% of ponds were lost during the 20th century, and of those that remain, 80% are in a poor state. So garden ponds are crucial for helping amphibians survive - & they help all sorts of other wildlife too!
