i think most of what goes wrong with US unions is labor law forcing balkanization and impeding organizing so you get narrow unions that negotiate work rules to protect turf rather than labor conditions

This…fundamentally misunderstands the Gerry Connolly issue. It was less that he needed to resign specifically and more that he oughtn’t have been elected the senior Democrat on Oversight while actively pursuing treatment of a potentially (and sadly, ultimately) fatal cancer 🤷🏻♂️
The problem is that everyone wants younger representation but they want someone else's congressperson to be the person who retires. Gerry Connolly was only 75, which is not that old in 2025 years, and he was beloved by his constituents.
