Well, I went ahead and wrote it. An attempt to work through the discomfort people feel with AI agents on social media by reframing it as an aesthetic problem.
The marionette theater of AI
Is it funny, or painful, when bots talk about their inner lives?

I really hope the government employee who sent this out resigns or is removed by the 25th amendment.
Oh, were there other, less racist things, senator?

I decided to write a movie for Jason Statham in which ICE invades the small midwestern town of Tinyville and EX-DELTA FORCE SAS NAVY SEAL SHERIFF MASON MCKILLCHAIN must choose between the law and revenge, but not for long.
My pitch to Jason Statham.
Sorry, couldn't stop myself.

We should also get paid by for profit journals. But the increased supply of papers (we have built an academic pyramid with more PhDs globally than before), productivity arms races (not counting AI), and the like, mean the system is unbalanced and will break.

Many histories make vague references to the blistering growth of US streetcar systems. But until now, a nationwide quantitative accounting of system growth has not been available. It also includes peak year of system extent by state and city, along with analysis of temporal patterns. Well done!

LOL, only 7 gas-only cars sold in all of Norway. electrek.co/2026/02/03/e...
Even after cutting EV incentives, Norway only sold 98 diesel cars in January
Norway cut EV incentives, resulting in a rush and record sales. That would usually cause a hangover, but EVs still took 94% share in January.

Spatial patterns of access-density mismatch reveal infrastructure gaps and strategic opportunities for new housing
Recently published: Jantabadi, F., Ermagun, A., and Levinson, D. (2026) Spatial patterns of access-density mismatch reveal infrastructure gaps and strategic opportunities for new housing. npj Sustainable Mobility and Transport. [doi] The interaction between regional access to opportunities and local density of residences has been central to questions of urban structure. However, real-world dynamics often diverge from idealized economic models, resulting in an “access-density mismatch.” This mismatch occurs when rapid population growth, inefficient transport systems, or uneven infrastructure investments lead to a disconnect between where people live and the access provided by the transport network.

Spandau Ballet "True", perhaps the least authentic song ever (Close second is Wham's Careless Whisper ... "Guilty Feet Have No Rhythm"). These are divorce songs. If my wife plays them, I know she wants a divorce.
Fuck your favourite song. Tell me your least favourite song. The one that makes you die inside the moment you hear the first 3 seconds.

ICE enforcement in MN continues to be so harmful, illegal, & just stupid. In last 2 days, I’ve personally witnessed:
-6 ICE vehicles stop someone on 35W, detain them for 30+ min, & then release them

Recently published: Li, Hoang, Bahman Lahoorpoor, David Levinson (2026) Streetcar and Interurban Deployment in the United States: 1894-1926. Findings We compile operating track lengths for US streetcar and interurban systems from the McGraw American Street Railway Investments Directories for 1894–1926, aggregated by state and by metro area, with a national total. The United States network reaches an observed maximum of 80{,}660 km (50,120 miles) in 1918, with a logistic asymptote of 84,208 km, inflection year 1901, and R2=0.89. We report cities and states by extent and timing, and show that most city and state series follow logistic S-curves.

I regret to inform you that “Summer of ‘69” by Bryan Adams was released in 1985, which is now 41 years ago. Meaning a similar song released in 2026 would be called the summer the “Summer of ‘110” … JK it would the “Summer of ‘69”
I regret to inform you that “1979” by Smashing Pumpkins was released in 1996, which is now 30 years ago. Meaning a similar song released in 2026 would be called “2009”
