My short Rushed starring Cherrelle Skeete and Azan Ahmed has finished its festival run at last night's Birmingham Film Festival Screening. Quite fitting as it is a love letter to Brum.

It's up for the audience award which can be voted for here:

There is so much to feel bad about the state of the world it is easy to lose track of the good things. Here are a gang of us from Birmingham Ramblers starting a walk in atmospheric mist. It got sunny later, and hours later we were in an amazing pub. It was a good day.

Birmingham Labour shit show tbh, speaking as a resident, following the national ineptitude model, and with leaders personally approved by Starmer
Birmingham council tried to slash workers wages & when the workers responded by taking industrial action the council decided to bring in scab labour to try & break the strike. Those agency workers are now going on strike too.

Loneliness is higher in Birmingham than average, especially for older people. @reengageUK tackles this with a 'Call Companions' service. But they urgently need more #volunteers to help tackle the 3-month waiting list. Can you help?

Tackling loneliness and isolation, one conversation at a time
According to survey statistics, Birmngham has a higher-than-average number of people who say they feel lonely. Loneliness and isolation can affect anyone, but it’s particularly common among older adults. Across Birmingham, charities and volunteers are working hard to change that, offering befriending services both in person and over the phone. One of those charities is Re-engage, which helps older people build vital social connections as their circles shrink in older age.

Cruel. Callous. Cowardly.

The public are seeing this Labour government for exactly who they are.

We all have a responsibility to make them pay at the ballot box.

Reject the hate. Reject them.

This is not who we are. Let's make hope normal again.

What is it about the Home Office which inculcates in Home Secretaries (going back to Blunkett and May) this performative cruelty?

And where is any evidence it works?

Other than amping up xenophobia does borrowing Trump’s ICE rhetoric actually it have any deterrence effect?

One of the most shameful incidents of WW2 was when the government and press scapegoated refugees, then decided to pack them off an a cramped ship, The HMT DUNERA and ship them to Australia.

As they boarded the boat they were stripped of the valuables and robbed by the guards.

Do you want to stop all the unsafe, illegal, small-boat channel crossings?

Then provide anyone who wants it with access to safe, legal, big-boat channel crossings.

It's really as simple as that.

The govt's proposed new asylum laws are impractical, ineffectual, and outright cruel. Aping the rhetoric of Reform won't fix the real issues in this country; it will only stir up more false divisions and endanger already vulnerable communities.

It’s like Polanski has broken a spell. This is great if you care about human dignity and wellbeing but definitely threatening to those in power.

All strength to him.
A Government of cowards.

Rather than tackle inequality - they've gone for pensioners, disabled people and now it's people fleeing war and persecution.

They can't get away with this.

Just wilful performative cruelty that is entirely out of step with the majority of British people.

How many Labour MPs got into politics in order to vote for stealing jewellery off of people seeking refuge from war and persecution?

In a world without the BBC, how will we know what is true and what is truly haplening in the world?

Our only source of information (misinformatio) will be the billionaire-owned media.

The BBC has been gravely damaged by 14 years of the Tories.

But we desperately need it to be functioning properly
Is the BBC worth saving at this point?
