☠️MORTIFYING CHRISTMAS STORY TIME

Ahead of the big day tomorrow, here’s the story of The Worst Thing That Ever Happened At Christmas. A few years ago, the two of us were invited to a communal Xmas dinner at a friend’s house, where all the guests were to bring different Xmas dinner components. 1/

On Christmas Eve 1968, in Lunar orbit, the Apollo 8 crew took this photo: “Earthrise."

I'll never forget how inspiring the Apollo missions were to my brother and me as kids. They showed us what our country and humanity can accomplish when we work together toward a common goal.

The arrest of Greta Thunberg for peacefully opposing genocide and supporting those on hunger strike is wrongful and disturbing.

This is yet another shocking example of the UK’s broad terrorism laws being used to target those exercising their right to freedom of expression and assembly rights.

The big Christmas and festive season question...

When you arrive at someone's house over the festive period how long is it traditional to wait before asking "What's the WiFi password mate?"

We said "there is no language moderate enough to avoid condemnation and sanction by a British establishment which is determined to support this atrocity for as long as the Americans want it to continue." Does the evidence say we're wrong, here?

I'm sorry for sounding like a broken record. Truly. It's just that it is going to take two generations, maybe more, to undo much of the utterly avoidable damage that the US administration is doing right now, and for hundreds of thousands of people killed by USAID cuts it is already far too late.

Anyone explicitly teach continuity explicitly? We do so as part of change but I’m interested in what continuity could look like for history teachers. Thank you so far to L (not on here), @egcarr.bsky.social and @alistairdickins.bsky.social

The idea that AI can “detoxify” people reframes emotional overwhelm as a software problem, and it treats loneliness and strain as things to route into a machine rather than conditions that require support, care, and structural repair. 1/*

I keep thinking about this. I was talking to a journalist friend about Project 2025, and he was saying how so much of it is being executed with frightening efficiency. And it is all the more frustrating because everyone with the power to stop it was so thoroughly and repeatedly warned.
I mean I think the people who underestimated the fascists are the stupids in this equation. The fascists had a 60 year plan, they documented the last year of it very publicly, and they are successfully implementing all of it.

The bit that gets missed in the scandal around Farage's schooldays is that his school made him a prefect - despite warnings from staff about his conduct.

It's a recurring theme for Trump, Johnson, Farage & co. We can't be surprised at the way they behave, when their behavior is constantly rewarded.

Now, in this twisted form, it is about forcing us to listen to elites and silencing the masses.
