Today is the 100th anniversary of Davis Day✨

Today we to join in remembering William Davis, a coal miner tragically killed in 1925 during a strike for better working conditions and fair wages in New Waterford. His death ignited a crucial turning point in Nova Scotia’s labour movement.

Davis Day today marks 100 years since William Davis was killed by company police during a strike. We honour those who stood the gaff and sacrificed so much for labour and human rights. And we remain committed to better wages and worker protections, and ending scab labour in NS.

As my friend and comrade Mark (@fwmarkc.bsky.social) has said elsewhere:

“There are no excuses for the Labour Board to delay a union’s certification. It should be very simple, if a majority of the workers indicate they want to join a union, they should be legally certified to do so.”
