Just because a thing can be done, it does not necessarily mean it should be done.
If you aren't super plugged into the comics world, you might have missed this, but: Erik Larsen's SAVAGE DRAGON, which has been published consistently since the 90s, is now regularly featuring characters who just hit the public domain. The latest issue has both Popeye and Mickey Mouse.
