Great piece and also a reminder that Blockbusters/cable TV were also not much loved by consumers - I love that internally Blockbusters described their business model as one of “managed dissatisfaction.”
This is brilliant on how streaming has wrecked movie careers and movie viewing, to the point where AI makes films no one watches. All to make some very rich people very very rich.

Time for some creative destruction.

Also if you want to see works from non-English speakers you need to go into your settings and make sure there's nothing listed under Content Languages. By default it will have your primary language selected meaning you won't see posts from other languages, so make sure to unmark that!

The International Society for Bayesian Analysis tells me Statistical Rethinking has won the 2024 DeGroot Prize for its contributions to "statistical inference, decision theory and statistical applications". This is huge honor especially given the previous winners who have influenced me so much.
