I was prepared for the end of the world ("as we know it") to come in an annihilating flash of light, as an inexorable grinding doom or as "intolerable boredom, punctuated by moments of agonising fear." I never imagined that it could arrive as a clown car full of utter inanity and bullshit. 🤡🤡🤡

I can now confirm my switch from photoshop to @krita.org and it's been great! Not without its challenges but I'm real happy having (finally) made the switch :)
(plus, their newest version, in beta, has a better Text tool!)
So far, @waterfox.net is a nice alternative to Firefox!

to summarize this year's online changes:
google chrome-> firefox -> waterfox
google search -> duckduckgo
windows 10 -> Linux Mint
photoshop -> krita (in progress)
gmail -> tuta mail
spotify -> deezer (might switch to Tidal)

Reactor's on a roll, here's another great piece, this one on illusion, Faustian bargains, and AI.

Deliberately relating it to the ST:TNG "four lights" piece, it's become clear that LLMs are gaslighting machines: trusting their output creates a self-delusional loop.

A powerful reading of a classic ST:TNG episode. Survivors of abuse and gaslighting may find this validating, even healing. Also helpful for anyone who finds their sense of what is real unsettled these days.

We all need to have our reality validated by others.

my son is five, same age as Liam Ramos. you don't need to have a child the same age to be fucking horrified by the violence we are doing (and HAVE BEEN doing) upon immigrant children in this nation. but that he keeps asking for his spidey backpack is the kind of detail that rips my heart in two.
