What’s the most scalable way to support teachers?

New evidence from Ghana suggests training school leaders as in-school coaches—supported by simple edtech—can significantly improve teaching quality.

Very late to this party, but just finished The Great Escape by Angus Deaton. It’s now 12 years old but doesn’t feel out of date.

Does anyone know what's up with the @iza.org Network? I nominated a researcher to be an Affiliate last February, but no news. Did the researcher network get lost in IZA's institutional transition?

New from Dev Patel, @arvind2011.bsky.social & me:

"We were wrong about convergence."

A few years back, we wrote a paper pointing out that Solow convergence had finally arrived. The developing world was catching up. Alas, it seems all good things come to an end.

Gave a group incentive for my students to complete course evaluations: if at least 80% of the class evaluated the course, all students would get +1 point on their final average.

The good news: response rates 2x compared to last semester! 😀
The bad news: response rate still only 55% 🫤

Thought-provoking piece. My wife leads a nonprofit, and while they don't have clear incentives to think about this counterfactual, their efforts often lead in this direction anyway. E(benefit) - cost is often higher for talking to a rich potential donor than submitting a lengthy grant application.
Hey #econsky! I'm organizing a workshop at Brown this Spring in partnership with Eric Nielsen and Viviana Rodriguez.

The topic is educational measurement. Please submit a paper/extended abstract! We'd love to consider your work.

And please help us spread the word to folks who aren't on bluesky!
