I don’t know what I did to offend Baz the wonder pug. He’s not angry, just disappointed. Probably also hungry.

I went to my local creative mornings group today. It was a good morning to be inspired by the folks around me.

This morning calls for music. Hymn for the Unholy and Appalachia by Emily Scott Robinson broke my heart and built it back up. And also made me homesick. Even though I love the sea and have lived near it longer, I miss the mountains.

I decided to take myself and Baz the wonder pug on a long walk this morning. A nearby nature area is being restored to a wetland area. The wading and water birds seemed very happy. I think the whole place will be stunning when the grasses grow in.

Silliness this morning because Rosebud is home. After chatting about K-pop Demon Hunters, we watched a video to learn how to make the Korean lamb towel. I only had a small towel around, but Baz the wonder pug is a good sport and tried it on.

"People who visited the Mission Hospital Emergency Department waiting room...between 2-6:30 a.m. on Jan. 4, 2026, might have been exposed" to measles.

Alert from Buncombe County public health.

Tragically, this is what happens when anti-vaccine lies aren't immediately crushed. #avlnews

My @fridaytea.com order arrived! I’m so excited. I think I’ll have the punkin pie rooibos this evening, but I can’t wait to have a cup of my beloved The Modern ProTEAtheus tomorrow.

Baz the wonder pug has suffered this week. The recliner part of the couch that I sit in stopped working. Never have you seen a sadder pup. Even if I sat in the other recliner, he was not happy. Luckily, the internet exists & we were able to get a replacement part. Behold, a happy pug back on my lap.

I would like to thank past me for buying myself Metroid Prime 4. Am I good at it? Nope. Am I completely focused on this rather than doomscrolling? Yep. I’m also loving the beautiful world and zooming around on my Samus bike.

For many of us, sadness and grief are inescapable at this time of year. Knowing that millions of other people feel the same way isn't particularly comforting. But at least we know that there's nothing wrong with us.

Tulip really wanted jelly doughnuts. Normally, I make them from scratch, but some days, I know when to give myself a break. The frozen Rhodes roll dough works great. After frying, I filled them with raspberry jam, rolled them in vanilla sugar, and melted chocolate for dipping.

I took some time this morning to put on a song that always make me cry. After sitting in that feeling for a while, I’ve turned back to my rage playlist. It’s been a week. I know it’s only Tuesday, but *gestures dramatically*.

I don’t know how to process the horrific fire hose of tragedy that has been omnipresent but has spiked this weekend, and I suspect I’m not alone. We aren’t meant to carry this much suffering and be able to function at “normal” capacity. Be gentle with yourself and others, if you can.

If you're not Jewish and you're having trouble contextualizing the Sydney attack, imagine a shooting at a public Christmas tree lighting in NYC. Little kids running around. Lovely Hanukkah lights. Maybe some singing. That's what these gunmen shattered. That's what we have to carry into Hanukkah.

I thought I’d escaped, but my post vaccination aches, chills are keeping me awake. So I will share some more Frankenstein reread thoughts. Victor belittling Justine’s despair. Wooooooow. Justine discussing her coerced confession, and Elizabeth bonding with her. Justice for Justine!!!!!!

Woohoo! Was able to get my second shingles vaccine and my pneumonia vaccine today and I even got to chat with my favorite pharmacist.

I saw Merrily We Roll Along at the movie theater yesterday. I loved it. An interesting way to tell a story (I didn’t know anything going in). Between this and & Juliet the other night, my brain is full of thoughts about life, art, & the choices we make.

I started listening to Frankenstein on my morning walk. I’d forgotten how much Robert loves Victor.

Let's be very clear that one of the major effects of the CDC no longer recommending various vaccinations is that it becomes much harder for folks who still want to be—or want their children to be—vaccinated to get their insurance providers to cover those vaccinations.

That’s me on the sofa with hot tea for the rest of the day. I’ve got a sinus infection. Why is it I suddenly feel a lot worse after getting diagnosed? Im sure that Baz the wonder pug will be pleased by more couch snuggle time.

My copy of Sinners arrived, and I can’t wait to watch it again tonight. It’s my favorite movie/soundtrack of the year.
