Wrapping up the challenge with a tribute to Swiss cartographer Eduard Imhof’s iconic style created entirely in #rstats!

A big thanks to John Nelson for his inspiring guidance on recreating Imhof's style and @drxeo.eu for making hillshade creation a breeze.
A map of Switzerland inspired by Eduard Imhof's cartographic style, created entirely in R. The map features colorful elevation gradients, detailed hillshading, and the main water bodies, including lakes and rivers. The design emphasizes Swiss terrain with a blend of aesthetic precision and technical expertise, following John Nelson's guidance for recreating Imhof's iconic style.

#30DayMapChallenge Day 22: 2 colours

I thought I'd make life difficult for myself with this one by being strict about only 2 colours. No grey scales; no 2 colours + background colour. Just 2.

A bit short of time today, so had to rush this one, but quite pleased with an unexpected coincidence.

What would the continent of Arctica look like. How well could it fit in the Arctic Ocean?

A map titled "The new continent of Arctica". It shows the world viewed from the North Pole extending about as far south as 55 degrees latitude. Sea is shown in pale green-blue, county outlines in brown. Canada is on the left of the map, Russia to the right and Northern Europe at the bottom. Overlaid in semi-transparent white is a mirror reflection of the Antarctic continental outline. It largely fits within the area of the Arctic Ocean overlapping northern hemisphere continents only in northern Canada and small parts of Alaska.

#30DayMapChallenge Day 5: A Journey

Taking inspiration from medieval Pilgrims' itinerary maps, I've been experimenting with 'straightening out' the map under a GPS track.

This journey was a long 36km walk from Ambleside to Keswick.

Down the centre is a red dashed line representing a straightened out GPS track. To the left are text annotation of major landmarks along the route. From bottom to top they are: AMBLESIDE, Grasmere, Easedale, Greenup Edge, Borrowdale, Derwent Water and KESWICK. To the right in a handwritten font are annotations also along the route. From bottom to top they read - An 5:30am start as this is going to be a long day - An easy stroll along familiar paths at the foot of Scandale and overlooking Rydal - Following the old Coffin Route used by residents of Rydal who buried their dead in Grasmere parish - Arrived in Grasmere before the shops opened, so will have to make do with provisions I am carrying. Looks like it's going to be a hot day - Walk proper starts here as I leave Grasmere and ascend Easdale. The lower part is easy walking but gets steeper in Upper Easedale. Getting through my water quite quickly - Views improving as I get higher. First glimpse of the Scafell range to the west - Easy to get lost up here as I traverse the boggy ground of Greenup Edge - First views of Borrowdale! - Tricky descent to Stonethwaite in hot sun - Very hot and thirsty. No water left! - Managed to find small farm shop. Cake and drink and a much needed rest - Walking much flatter now I am in Borrowdale proper, but legs complaining - Woodland walking provides much needed shelter from sun. Borrowdale is beautiful. - Now onto the banks of Derwent Water. Keswick as just 10km away at the other end - Legs ache, but thankfully walking is easy on good paths with stunning views of the lake - Just passed a Alpaca walking park at Lingholm. They really are comedy animals - Quick stop at Cafe for drik and urgent rest for tired legs - Made it! And in time for the last bus home
