An ad that asks, "What's Ry Cooder?"

Whatever it is, it's sure played mandolin and guitar (sometimes bottleneck) on some noted people's stuff...

Was thrilled to help consult for this fantastic John Oliver segment on the tragic plight of U.S. public media and why, if we hope to be a democracy, we still need public media for so many things that commercial media will never provide. Deserves a wide viewership. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yknM...

On the drive home from swimming lessons WUMB played a Damien Jurado song and my 4.5 yr old said “I don’t like this” (folk music not his thing currently, totally fine) I responded that I like it and that “he even drove me home from his concert once” to which my son said “I don’t believe you!”

Working on a think piece in my head, on the rewriting of the live album in 2025. SML’s chopped and screwed groovy futuristic jams. Dougie Poole’s re-tracked and overdubbed ‘At Tubby’s.” Weirs using the family farm as an instrument to bring ancient folk music into the future on ‘Diamond Grove.’ 🧵

On my rainy dog walk this morning we passed a CD copy of Check Your Head in the wet grass, and then a few feet later, a drenched copy of Ill Communication, that unmistakable Grand Royale logo. A lifetime ago I owned both discs and they meant the world, today I don’t even have a way to play them.

I have this thing for grey 5 pocket cords because my favorite overnight camp counselor growing up wore them every single day. Uniforms and simple wardrobes fascinate me. Vintage Barbour Solway Zipper, thrifted Gap cords, Rancourt suede deal sleds.
