I had a wonderful holiday with friends that I considered extended family in San Diego. I love SD and all of the scenery.

“Coalinga! There was significant earthquake in 1983”
Today’s drive from San Diego to San Francisco consisted of @timblor.bsky.social pointing out all the earthquake faults and geologic features to me and I pointed out all highway exits to state prisons, county jails, and ICE detention facilities. An interesting Venn diagram, I suppose…

Travel writer Rick Steves was at his home in Edmonds, Washington, when he learned a local community center for homeless residents was set to close. Within a few weeks, Steves bought it.

“I really take ‘love your neighbor’ seriously,” he said.

Travel writer Rick Steves said he takes the verse ‘love thy neighbor’ seriously and paid more than $2 million to save the facility in Washington state.

A swarm of earthquakes has been rattling the Bay Area since mid-November. This is only the latest of various swarms over the last half-century. What’s going on with this swarm, and how does it compare?

(Plus, the post includes a bonus video of our cutest kitten yet!)

Adminstration trying to hide their crimes. Hope many more people see what they didn’t want anyone to see.
UPDATE

I have updated my story linked below with a high-quality broadcast version of the 60 Minutes segment that was pulled by Bari Weiss.

Nothing like a power outage to make me realize how instinctively I reach for the light switch when walking into a room, despite knowing full well it will do nothing.
A large power outage is impacting San Francisco - only call 9-1-1 for life safety emergencies, avoid non-essential travel, treat down traffic signals as four way stops, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed, and turn off major appliances to prevent surges.

Substantial power outage in San Francisco this afternoon. Estimated time for power restoration is 17:45 per PG&E. Hope it is sooner.

Managed to get a late afternoon walk in at Crissy Field. Nice views and I got my new annual National Park Pass (good until 12/26) before they put an addled, corrupt, anti-democratic, wanna-be king on it.

Today’s project was a new chile con carne experiment. The big change is I smoked the pieces of chuck roast for a couple of hours before adding it to the chile base that I made in the usual fashion. We’ll see how this turns out.

Murder alert: Once again, near sunset, every crow in San Francisco seemed to fly by our house on their way downtown. Took almost 10 minutes of this before most of them flew by.
