Earthquake Geologist in public service. Mostly tweets about earthquake geology and a cat..mostly. The “Earthquake Whisper who bakes bread and rocks out” per BlueskyRoast AI. Maybe a bit more Grateful Dead commentary than on the other site.
Productive stay-cation day:

Made waffles for breakfast

Went for a hike to Sutro Forest

Did a bunch of yard work

Baked a loaf of bread

The San Ramon earthquake cluster seems to be dying off, but this behavior could pick up again. There isn’t a way to say for sure what is next, which is why we focus on preparedness, rather than prediction. Hopefully this pattern continues and activity continues to diminish with time.

I did not feel this or the M3.7 a bit later, but I was in the east bay working outside. A reminder that despite the federal government shutdown, a group of dedicated scientists at the USGS works to maintain networks that monitor earthquakes and other hazards. earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/...

Downtown San Francisco was under some low fog this morning with only the tops of rises peaking above.

I’m nominating for a to-be-determined canyon to be renamed “Crippling Self-doubt Canyon” as the scariest canyon name.

The @theonion.com’s satire hits a little too close to home when I get a monthly renewal notice the same day.

I thought this crow was a Halloween decoration until it flew away.

More than six years after the 2019 Ridgecrest earthquake, the surface rupture is looking very degraded south of the Spangler Hills, only well-preserved in select locations.

Good sunset in the Mojave tonight.

It was an early morning to get to the #ShakeOut event in Oakland, but I did get some cool photos in downtown Oakland.

Many thanks to the City of Oakland for hosting this morning’s hugely successful #ShakeOut event. They also win for best podium ever.

Today I am in Oakland representing @cageosurvey.bsky.social with colleagues from @caloes.bsky.social for the drill at city hall.

Happy #GreatShakeOut drill day. Today at 10:16am is your opportunity to practice the actions you should take when you feel shaking from an earthquake:
DROP to the ground
COVER your head and neck
HOLD ON until the shaking stops

Last bit of sunlight hitting SF this evening.

Tried taking some photos of hummingbirds at a feeder with marginal results. This is the best I could do with these critters today.

There is a barn owl (identified by Merlin) screeching on top of an old power pole outside our place. It may be upset at another much larger owl that I saw fly by at the same time.

Lot of deer in the backyard this evening.

This butterfly sat on my finger for a while yesterday for my bit of serenity and just enough time to use my other hand and pull out my phone to take some photos.
