Intermediate depth earthquakes can cause destructive shaking in Chile, and may mixed mode rupture. Study led by Jia on the 2024 Calama 7.4 with a number of our Chilean friends, including our field team Bertrand Potin, Sergio Ruiz, Juan Baez, and Marcos Moreno.

Four hours after the arrival of the first #tsunami wave at Crescent City CA, as shown by this tide gauge record, more than thirteen hours after the M8.8 Kamchatka #earthquake, the wave height again reached almost 1 meter, not that much lower than the maximum of 1.1 m almost three hours earlier. 🧪⚒️
