Outcry over ExpressVPN ownership: What the Israeli connection means for user privacy
Outcry over ExpressVPN ownership: What the Israeli connection means for user privacy
Outcry over ExpressVPN ownership: What the Israeli connection means for user privacy Social media users are calling for the mass cancellation of ExpressVPN subscriptions after it was revealed that a cybersecurity firm with  Israeli  ties owns the popular privacy service. In 2021, The Times of Israel  reported  that Kape Technologies, a British-Israeli digital security company, acquired ExpressVPN, one of the world’s largest virtual private network (VPN) providers, for nearly $1bn. The calls for cancellation intensified after social media  users  began  circulating  information about Teddy Sagi, the Israeli billionaire and owner of Kape Technologies. Many shared that in 2023, as reported by The Jerusalem Post, Sagi donated $1m to transport soldiers during the Israeli war on  Gaza . This is not the first time the calls have been made since the acquisition, but they are more widespread now, given Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza. A VPN is a tool that encrypts internet traffic and masks identities by routing connections through secure servers. VPNs are widely used for privacy, anonymity, and bypassing censorship. Ownership of such services is considered highly sensitive by privacy advocates. Read more:  Outcry over ExpressVPN ownership: What the Israeli connection means for user privacy

Indeed. Earlier this summer, the White House did this to me, as a scientific expert source in media, and issued a formal statement regarding my personal campaign contribution history in an attempt to discredit my commentary on wildfire, climate, and federal policy. Yet more alarm bells ringing...
I had this exact same experience this morning. Same reporter as Heidi.

This is *not* normal.

I have spoken to the press on these issues for two decades. No government official has ever demanded to know my identity in order to give a comment on a story.
I find this extremely chilling:
I spoke w a reporter this morning about Kimmel. (Reporter was / is great) They got back to me a short while ago to say they sought White House comment & WH demands to know first which experts they spoke with. I told reporter I'm happy to be quoted IN THE STORY but 1/x

People who come to DC to serve are the most likely to have multiple principal residences (that's the terminology, not primary) & it is perfectly legal for them to do so. It's just as legal for Lisa Cook to have a principal residence during the school year & one for the summer.
PRO PUBLICA: “.. at least three of Trump’s Cabinet members call multiple homes their primary residences on mortgages.

It appears that PACER has been compromised by a Russian threat actor for some time. This is a very big deal for people who have submitted sealed documents in federal court whose threat model includes RU.
