Traces of Hubris ( @vucavu.bsky.social ) after T2 (playing solo). Axis felt good right up until the Soviet's huge reinforcements in T2. The push Eastward is about to slow waaaaay down. This is a basic hex-and-counter, yet is VERY well designed.

My second Vuca game and they have both been excellent

Traces of Hubris - @vucasimulations.bsky.social (Fall Blau 1942). Playing solo to get the system down. It is a chit-pull activation hex-and-counter WWII game and I'd have to say, it feels like a good way to get into hex and counter games (if you are looking for that).

My 2025 Cult of the New games

* 1989 uses the same "combat" system the Hannibal and a couple of other CDGs use and I just hate it (otherwise it was ok)
* FitL is one of the top COIN games, but FoS just makes it longer without a fulfilling payoff (and I don't enjoy the 2-player system)

This was the moment where it went from trippy to amazing

I show 226 games in my collection, but I'm pretty sure at LEAST 26 are things I'm trying to sell or trade. As much as I'd like to get to 150 or less, I suspect a LOT of what I'd like to get rid of just doesn't have a bunch of interest out there, so I'll probably be closer to 250 than 150 next Dec.

My end-of-the-year reflection - cult-of-the-new games:
The best of those being either Crossing the Line: Aachen 1944
OR Red Dust Rebellion
December 16, 2025 at 10:50 PM
Starting my end-of-year reflection in gaming with my solo plays (not including digital). Its been a while, but I really enjoy the Pathfinder ACG. Wargame wise, D-Day at Omaha Beach is top notch and Conflict of Heroes: Eastern Front solo is also good. I tried a fair amount vs what I tried last year.

This weekend was Hex-and-Counter weekend with @nwinches.bsky.social - Crossing the Line: Aachen 1944, Fighting Formations: Grossdeutschland Motorized Infantry Division, and South Pacific (EotS). Two were new, and I had to recall everything to explain SP - my brain hurts

Got to play @vucasimulations.bsky.social 's Crossing the Line: Aachen 1944 with @nwinches.bsky.social this weekend and I was really impressed with the game. The systems are really engaging for activation and combat. I'm looking forward to trying it again.

Good weekend of gaming with @nwinches.bsky.social - played South Pacific, Fighting Formations (original), and now playing Crossing the Line: Aachen 1944

lots of hexes and counter :D

7 PoG games:
1st (short, rules learning)
2nd longer, we had no clue what we were in for.
3-7 RtT - lots of lessons learned, feel stuck. Starting to watch other games and what they are doing.

Learned: RtT's "dice" are just as mean to other players as they are to us. They hate everyone

This is old, but for folks grabbing the new Combat Commander - here are a few Litko upgrades you can grab to pimp up your set (and truly, you will hope for a spreading blaze every game just to see it on the map). boardgamegeek.com/thread/45881...
My Pimped Combat Commander | Combat Commander: Europe
Hey René, I bought those with the text on them. Litko offers several customizable counter options, so I picked out the shape, color, and the custom text, and they put it together for a reasonable pri...

Introduce yourself using a food you refuse to eat, a film you’ll never watch again, a song you can’t stand

1. Lots of choices, but stinky food - cheese, durian, etc. NOPE

2. Burn After Reading - not funny, none of the characters had an ounce of redeeming qualities.

3. Clapton's Wonderful Tonight
Introduce yourself using a food you refuse to eat, a film you’ll never watch again, a song you can’t stand

1. Eggplant is slimy boogers. Yes, even the way "you" make it.

2. Last of the Mohicans is the only film I've ever walked out of.

3. Stairway to Heaven.
Introduce yourself using a food you refuse to eat, a film you’ll never watch again, a song you can’t stand

1. Pineapple is really repulsive.

2. "Salo" was absolutely the worst date night I ever had

3. There were some strong contenders but then Samhain made me listen to Temporary Secretary

Limited War indeed.
Paths of Glory is just brutal with @nwinches.bsky.social

Could be the furthest along we've gone where things still feel like it could utterly collapse in either direction. This game is rough. I thought Twilight Struggle was rough, but that game is rainbows and cupcakes next to the emotional brutality of PoG

There’s still time to save Robert Roberson
Unless something changes, in less than a month, Texas will end Robert's life despite overwhelming evidence he's actually innocent.
