Heavily inspired by Morrowind, Planescape and 70's Star Wars with a dash of bronze age and art nouveau. The mood? Conan after Conan: all the heroes are dead and this is the world they built.

The early morning creeps amidst the ravines, painting the world in coy lilacs and deep purples. A city of horned spires jolts from the stony wastes, illuminated in bright cosmopolitan oranges. An alien zeppelin flares out its floodlights at the rooftops and beyond.

The wizard stares at the viewer, though we do not see within his cloak and hood. Blackness. From the void creeps out two marble-white hands, old as time, covered in rings, gesturing in unknown signs.

OMIOS URES

Two Carverine (orc-like humanoids), a male and a female, ride alongside eachother, on top of war hippos. They hold each other's arms. With the other hand, the female orc displays a freshly decapitated head - the enemy king. While the male lifts his axe up in prideful show. Both orcs have red hair and pinkish-gray skin, similar to the hippos they ride upon. The carverine have long, elephant like tusks, and wear minimal bronze armor.

A giant cyclops. Slender, female. Her armor is golden bronze, made of large plates with shield-sized domes protusions, which help veer off attacks. She wears a golden diadem, golden earrings, and her single eye is bright blue. Her armor shines from the warm light that trickles into the large chamber, pouring in from an off-scene oculus. Her face partially in the dark, tall that she is, only illuminated partially by the bounce lighting of her armor. Her right arm adjusts her belt, while her left arm is lifted, underneath it; we see a shirtless servant on top of a tall staircase, tying the laces of her bracer. The staircase is built of beige stone. The bracer is almost the size of this person. By the cyclops' feet, we see two other servants donning her greaves. One of them holds the giant slab of bronze in place, while the other, behind the cyclops' calf, ties up the laces. The floor is a white marble tile, giving the entire scene a slight reflection.

Did you know a single greave of this Cyclops weighs around 150 kilos?

Behind the Princes Warrior, we see a 2 story tall greataxe. It is brightly illuminated by the single shaft of light that brightens the entire room. In fact, the entire scene is illuminated either by the natural light, or the bounce lighting of the cyclops' armor, giving the entire painting a warm look.

The chamber is large and tall, made of stone, to accomodate the Princess Warrior. A small brazier burns incense, permeating the room with a pleasant odor of cloves. Behind the Cyclops and her servants, three noble folk overlook her befitting from a balcony. The balcony sits at the height of the Cyclops' head. One woman smokes, the man in the middle lifts a goblet with a grin, and the leftmost woman looks simply bored. There's a glass pitcher hewn with gold half-filled with wine next to them.

In need of some solid horror flicks to watch with Rose as we've already worked our way through some of the standouts of the previous 5-10 years.

(Also anything with a psychological bent to it would be great as I'm working on a short story in that genre)

so I got Final Draft running on the Macintosh SE I picked up at this weekend’s SoCal Vintage Computer Festival.

I can now write a screenplay on the SE and save it to my modern Mac with the floppy disk adapter I have, open the file in modern final draft, and submit it for work

Hey, friends! Here are some thoughts on using planes in your compositions.

Text:
"Planes" are a depiction of anything that exists in a drawing at a FiXED spatial distance from the viewer, with each grouping of subjects at a shared distance overlapping the next in order to suggest the spatial relationship of each element in the drawing to the others.
This image has three planes:
(Image of a drawing with a scorpion on a rock, a cowboy sitting on a rock, and a mountain in the background).
Each plane in an image signifies a different degree of distance, with the foreground SHARiNG the viewer’s spatial plane, and the background being the farthest from it.
There’s clear distance between each plane; no plane “touches” another.

Text: why is overlapping the planes necessary?
(image: a cowboy apparently close to the viewer, one a ways back, and then a saloon behind him).
Unless one plane directly overlaps another, there’s no sure clarity that they are, in fact, suggestive of different distances.
(image: the cowboy appearing to be closest is shown to be a giant, swinging the apparently midground cowboy by the head into the two-story saloon that's only about as tall as a person).

it’s also important to suggest scale in each plane using subjects whose size the audience is likely to know. when that isn’t possible, try repeating the element-of-unspecified-scale (a) from one plane in another and have it (B) interact there with a subject whose scale is clear.

Text: A perspective grid composition (A) suggests depth by progressive recession in space, while planar composition (B) suggests it with staggered recession in space.

The principles of overlapping planar composition can be used with a perspective grid, especially if there are elements with right angles (like buildings).
Rough your panel with plane elements in place first...
...then make/place a grid that fits your layout...
...then utilize the grid to make the receding angles match.

One of the most useful* aspects of a foreground element is to create a sense of immersion for your audience. by putting it on essentially the same plane as the audience itself, the audience becomes a
part of the story, seemingly able to touch the foreground, to lean around it for a better view.
(image: the wanted man is now decidedly a foreground element).
*it also means less time spent drawing all of the detail in the midground or background planes without ever aesthetically shortchanging your audience.
