Prepping for Metatopia. Writing a game about an optimistic future seems more pointless AND more important than ever.

I've talked to a few folks this morning who were talking about stopping work on their creative projects. Because it's "not important anymore."

I don't know who needs to hear this, but DON'T DO THAT.

We win by living our lives as loudly and truly as we can. That includes your "silly" art project.

Keep making art. Keep writing your stories. Even if they must exist in secret for a time, they are important - each of them a little act of rebellion.

Most of all, keep on living. If you can muster no other motivation on some days, then do it out of righteous spite for those who want you gone.

One thing many activists I admire have in common is that they don't see hope as a fleeting thing that just visits when things are good. When I tabled at the Denver Small Press Fest earlier this year I could tell some people were curious about journaling games, but wanted something to get their feet wet and weren't ready to drop $15+ on a game or over $20 on The Ink That Bleeds. So now...

I made the drawings this past January 6th (inspired by a cartoon by @lizadonnelly.bsky.social). Sadly, they—and the questions they ask—seem even more timely and important today on Independence Day.

This is the most exciting game I playtested at METATOPIA, now available in Quickstart format.

I love the versatility of TTRPGs. You can play a one-shot, a tight 8-week season, or a sprawling multi-year campaign. You can play online, at your mate's house, at a club or at a convention. You can play epic heroes saving the world or ordinary people doomed to madness and death. It's all good.
