In case you missed it, a Republican in *checks notes* … Texas — who Trump endorsed — just underperformed Trump by 30 points and lost a special election.

The panic is going to be delicious.

#AT40 In fairness to this song - which I disliked as a teen - it has a bit more poignancy when you hear it after 40. (Simon was 37 when he wrote it)

Still don't *love* it, but appreciate the lyrics more.

Wow. You're full curmudgeon today! Movies, AT40....pretty soon you'll be attacking bourbon.

1. This was a great slow dancing song for us teens
2. It's a good song.
3. Perfect for the ending of Saturday Night Fever, which was actually a very sad, melancholy movie

I met Ian outside the Whipple Building in Mpls last week, where he was protesting ICE. I was blown away by his vulnerability, by how deeply he—a 6-time combat vet—feels like his nation is under attack. I just learned that he was among those arrested by federal officials for protesting at the church.
Ian Austin, an Army veteran, was arrested for protesting ICE in Minneapolis. But he’s continued protesting. Senior reporter @julialurie.bsky.social spoke to him.

“When they say, ‘Why would you be out here?’ How the fuck could I not be out here?” he says. “My nation is under attack."

Let me reiterate: THEY DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH GUYS TO PERSECUTE LARGE NUMBERS OF DISSENTERS. What they are doing, instead, is using fear and paranoia as a force multiplier: they don’t have to persecute us if we keep ourselves home because someone told us we can’t walk in public without being terrified.

Well, to quote Bluesky's favorite president, Ronald Reagan:

"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It has to be fought for and defended by each generation."
....." - yet..." remains the operative and very dark concept.

Also true. And they'd wear clearly marked uniforms as a sign of power and authority instead.
If we lived in a fascist state, ICE agents wouldn’t wear masks. They wouldn’t be afraid to show their faces.

They do not have that right. This is authoritarian action in advance of doing it more broadly to steal the midterms.
@normornstein.bsky.social I had to idea they could send in federal agents to search State voting rolls and take them as evidence. Am I a dummy?
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is executing a search warrant at a Fulton County election office in Georgia related to the 2020 election, a law enforcement official familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.

Neighbors woke up at 3 a.m. and drove 800 miles to show support for Roberto Orozco-Ramirez at a court hearing Wednesday. “The community responded more than I ever thought,” his son said.
For years he was just the beloved local auto shop owner. Then came Border Patrol.
When Border Patrol arrested a beloved mechanic in Froid, Montana, neighbors were forced to reckon with national immigration policy.

This is why I’d vote for Lander over like 98% of current Dems: he doesn’t talk about doing things, he actually does him. Of course he stood up to ICE. Of course he’s getting prosecuted by Trump. Of course he came to Minneapolis. 100 of him and we’d win comprehensively
lander is that dude that shows up, underrated superpower

Masking is not about doxing. That is the excuse. They are wearing masks so people cannot identify agents who engage in abuses, civil rights violations, and crimes. You can’t report someone or hold them accountable in any way if you can’t identify them.

I cannot stress how completely bizarre & unheard of it is for the DNI to be personally present for a search warrant execution, never mind this one.
“.. U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard speaks on the phone while standing inside a vehicle loaded with boxes outside the Fulton County Election Hub and Operation Center after the FBI executed a search warrant there.”
