As someone who wrestles with doubt and yet finds Christianity endlessly nourishing, it's hard to disarticulate the despair of the modernist epics from an absence of the consolations of the Word.

Christ is nowhere to be found if not in the marginalized, and Christians often do not find him there, which has meant that "Christianity" authentically refers to a strange combination of the Spirit of God and two thousand years of the most obscene and gut-wrenching Satanic abominations imaginable.

Shortly after communing on Sunday I was introduced to "Soneto a Cristo crucificado," and since then it has been difficult to think of anything or have feelings about anything other than Christ being fully present in the poor and despised.
