The incompleteness of the epic works of, e.g., Pound and Olson, could be seen, in this way, as the failure of totalizing coherence anchored in the human, in history, etc. But this isn't to replace epic with epic but rather to suggest that the weakness of kenosis apocalyptically reconfigures epic.

Which is also to say that if heroism has any meaning, it is the heroism of the defeated—a tragic heroism oriented towards an eschatological horizon: the poor heroism of the poor.
