I had so many conversations with people fed up with all the chaos, deceit and U-turns. Politics must respond to this disenchantment, says Guardian columnist Owen Jones

“Sad, arrogant loser trying to blame their deficiencies on everyone else” perfectly sums up the Reform mindset
Goodwin's decline from pretty mediocre academic to racist right wing incel isn't new or particularly original. It's also not the fault of women, migrants or anyone else. It is a tale as old as time, a sad, arrogant, loser trying to blame their deficiencies on everyone else. So perfect for Reform.

How long are we going to hear about “legitimate debates and concerns about immigration?” It’s time we told the truth and deal with it. Net migration is low, we need more migrants, we are an ageing population. Highly skilled and low paid jobs are dependent on migrants. We need safe and legal routes.

The rise of vice-signalling: how hatred poisoned politics

How can any serious political analyst ask the question in 2026 “Would splitting the left-wing vote with Labour be a gift to Reform?”
As though this Labour government had any attraction at all for Left-leaning voters
Would splitting the left-wing vote with Labour be a gift to Reform? 🌹

I like that @edconway.bsky.social ‘s piece does ad in the ONS’ contradiction of the figures, but it doesn’t excuse what is essentially @news.sky.com platforming bigoted, ill informed views that will only continue to add to an increasingly hostile environment for immigrants in the UK
Manchester Utd owner is giving media interviews claiming UK "colonised" by immigrants

He thinks population rose 12 million snce 2020!

11 million people born abroad; this was 9.5 million in 2020, so that is up 1.5 million (not 12 million) but rose 7 million in 30 years from 4m before 1997

So disgusting of this Labour government - and so misguided - they use bigoted rhetoric to chase the Reform vote, which horrifies potential supporters, while at the same time makes no traction with Reform supporters who simply feel even more vindicated for calling asylum seekers “illegal migrants”
The Home Office now describes asylum seekers as "illegal immigrants [living in hotels]" with no reference to the reason that these people are in government-funded accommodation is that this government has taken & will process the asylum claim from them in 98-99% of cases of unauthorised entry.

William Shakespeare wrote this speech 400 years ago about people in London wishing that immigrants go back to where they came from, performed by Sir Ian McKellen on the Stephen Colbert show:
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

2024: Labour suspend their own MPs for daring to suggest scrapping two child limit
2025: Surging @greenparty.org.uk under @zackpolanski.bsky.social pressure Labour into scrapping the limit
2026: Labour boast about scrapping the limit
Tonight, Labour MPs voted to scrap the two child limit – a move that puts us on course to drive the biggest reduction of child poverty in a single Parliament.

The Tories and Reform UK voted against it.

Don’t let anyone tell you voting Labour doesn’t make a difference 🌹

It's rare to see how lobbyists operate. But the Epstein-Mandelson correspondence shows us what happens all the time: plutocrats and government ministers conspiring against the public interest. This is why all lobbying should be in the public domain, but despite Labour and Con promises, it's not. 🧵

How? How do you double-check the accuracy, if you're not already an expert? Ask a different GenAI? Or do you, you know... Have to go and do the research you would have done anyway, pre-AI? Because I'm buggered if I can think of how you do that in a way where the GenAI saved you time.

My advice to high street retailers blathering on about “free” car parking is that if they train their customers to think a car is necessary for shopping, they’ll realise that it’s just as easy to drive to that huge out of town retail park or shopping mall instead of.
