Shane doesn't have one - his mom discouraged it when he was younger, and now that he's old enough to get one without parental permission, he isn't going to risk it outing him in public. He might get one later, someday in the future, after hockey.

The more serious/darkfic take on this is obviously Shane getting roofied while out in Boston, and he calls Ilya because he doesn't feel right. Ilya isn't going to pick up at first, but Shane calls a second time. Once is unusual (and usually disclaimed as an accident), twice is unheard of.
Alternatively, this could be the perfect set-up for a riff on the classic "I didn't know where else to go" showing up at your enemy's door. Shane gets whammied with something while in Boston, and the only person he knows in this town is Ilya, who isn't speaking to him atm
