I don't think the debate between Crockett and Talarico will change minds, but it was great to see them both up there speaking about substantive issues and not trying to tear each other down. Former House Appropriations staffer here. At this point the Senate can't defund ICE; HR1 funds ICE through September. A "no" vote here shuts down FEMA, TSA, Coast Guard, etc. Shut down ICE? Gotta take back Congress in the 2026 midterms. Getting rid of DHS? Gotta take back the White House in 2028.
