ICYMI, the most personal thing I've ever written, and it's on cnn dot com www.cnn.com/2025/09/28/h...
Can the party drug ketamine be a mental health breakthrough? It was for me | CNN
Known more for its use as party drug, ketamine can provide a lifeline for people experiencing distressing mental health symptoms.

In Cardiff I have three rooms. Constantly misplacing stuff. At my parents' there are like ten, with the added variability of anything not nailed down WILL be moved by one of them at some point, and then they'll forget where they put it

Right. Cannot imagine that happening in the UK tbh let alone London
February 3, 2026 at 9:12 AM
In other places yes but not in NYC, I can't remember if it's a state thing or a city thing but there are signs saying you can't turn on red.
February 3, 2026 at 9:12 AM
I'll never forget the first fortnight in Brooklyn where I saw a car turn into a junction on a red. A woman on the other side of the road started yelling at the driver and hitting the car with her umbrella. As people passed, they kicked or hit the car. My city ❀️

Had to stop my inner New Yorker coming out yesterday when I almost yelled at a car while crossing the road. The kind of thing they section you for in London but in NY people might clap or join in

Yeah that's what I mean!! It's actually kinda dangerous because it bongs at me and I instinctively start slowing down thinking I'm speeding!!

Oh my god Adam
February 2, 2026 at 11:14 PM
I think it's because the roadworks were there so long - when it would have definitely been 50mph because I remember driving it pre-NY - that someone or the software or something thinks it's permanent
February 2, 2026 at 11:11 PM
No what I mean is my car mistakenly thinks it's 50mph and it freaks me out every time but it's not? It's 70
February 2, 2026 at 11:09 PM
Nah I mean the bits of the M4 that have speed cameras. It's fine except my car seems to think it's still 50mph and bongs at me really loudly. I gotta figure out who to complain to - or how to fix it

What exactly is "smart" about them?

It's 11pm

I'm in bed thinking about smart motorways

We are not the same

I'm struggling with this information

Did you know that burrata is basically a cream dumpling of mozzarella?

I thought it was an entirely different cheese?

Could you imagine the ONS every year or so just shutting down the entire website due to a "lapse of funding"?
February 2, 2026 at 10:13 AM
Yeah that's what I mean. Rich people avoid tax? Feels like something I already knew

The Panama Papers was really weird because it's all I heard journalists talk about for a while but I never heard ordinary people mention them, it was a tremendous amount of work but it didn't cut through

Probably because it wasn't really revelatory? - a cynical person would fully expect that
remember when the panama papers came out and we found out every rich person on earth was committing tax fraud and then nothing happened

Like for many, many years I just thought their job was to kidnap and tie people up.

If you want to know how things stick with you from childhood, every time I think of the IRS I remember this whole subplot

I want everyone who has spent years in therapy wondering what is wrong with them, wondering why they had so many bad relationships, why they felt so much dread, to know that it was in part because you were living in a world run by evil, evil people and you could tell that somewhere deep down

We also get on well TBF but it is difficult sometimes.. My mum loves having me here and hates the idea of me going back to the US. πŸ˜†

38 this year and had to bounce home a couple of years ago. Shit happens, and it's not ideal for any of us tbh. Even though I have my own flat I can't live there full time. Annoying.

No Other Choice was good but about 45 mins too long?

My big task for today was to file my US taxes, can't do it because the whole thing is so unfathomably complicated.

That $150 check that NY State sent to my address in London? Taxable. Damned if I know how to declare it on my federal taxes.
