Normally, I only make these postings when I’m far enough to know a book is a keeper. This one I’m doing again at the conclusion. It’s a unique book appearing at a unique time. It is historical fiction, and it’s very good on the history, but reads like a page-turner spy novel.

Spy fiction set before US entry into World War II, but the actors are from the US Treasury, trying to wreak economic havoc on the Nazis. It’s a good read, and you don’t need to be a macroeconomics geek to enjoy it.
But it definitely helps. 🥳

Was just watching a SpaceX launch, and Delta flight 480 overflew the Vandenberg restricted area at 32,000 feet.
They scrubbed the launch at T minus one minute due to the overfly.
Can't fathom THAT conversation, with both pilot and controller.

I’m sitting here by a fire pit at a campsite on the coast. The computer in my lap is connecting via satellite to a data center, but as far as I’m concerned, it feels and acts as if the computation I’m doing is local. /1

I got a couple of nights camped in Death Valley. If I could give a Christmas gift to everyone, it might be the peace that comes from sitting in the immense stillness of the desert southwest wilderness.
