New publication: "Lyn expression in macrophages promotes TLR activation and restricts proliferation in an isoform-independent manner" is out now in JLB. MD/PhD student Anders Lindstedt led with an assist from @lab-williams.bsky.social. academic.oup.com/jleukbio/art... @cfi-umn.bsky.social 🧪
Lyn expression in macrophages promotes TLR activation and restricts proliferation in an isoform-independent manner
RNA sequencing and functional assays demonstrate that both LynA and LynB restrict macrophage proliferation and drive TLR-induced ECM remodeling and inflamm

Can we improve peer review? We think we can! Check out an experiment I helped with as part of @solvingforsci.bsky.social 's mission to make science better.
And if you don't want to read the whole bioRxiv manuscript, here's an overview of the main findings:

Just said goodbye to my NIH MIRA award. Really hurts to see the word “terminated” in writing. Even worse to see it next to the F31 awarded to a fantastic PhD student in my lab @aybv.bsky.social. I REFUSE to let this stop us!!!

Preprint alert from the Freedman lab! PhD student Erandika Senevirathne reveals a unique role for the Src-family kinase Lyn in maintaining steady-state signaling in macrophages and a role for the phagocytic synapse in protecting against negative feedback by SHIP1. 🧪

The NIH eRA Commons website has been down all afternoon. Does anyone have insight on whether this is a glitch or a plan? 🧪

I think people both within science and outside science don’t fully appreciate the miracle that were the Covid-19 vaccines. How much courage it took to get the sequence out, how much work had already gone into figuring out the best viral antigen and how best to present it. 1/
