in my fifth grade science class in texas i was taught that the world was overpopulated and that by the time i was an adult the trajectory of population growth would have to flatten somehow. pretty sure that wasn’t state mandated but i think it goes to show a lot about the culture down there

Nobody in tech works for the same company for longer than nine months anymore so forgive me if I think the conventional wisdom wrt writing maintainable code may have degraded a bit over the past decade

I think a lot of us would do well to admit that we maybe spent part of our lives broadly ignorant to certain social ideas and historical occurrences. And that, although embarrassing, we only (somewhat) recently gained some awareness on such topics. That’s ok. Just start doing better today

horrible things are happening on the internet. toxic propaganda is being promoted to my feed on every major social media site. the internet feels a bit like it did in 2011. it's profitable to be making reactionary slop, and it's not organic, but it is rubbing off on us.

when i do it, i swear to God it's not a humblebrag. It's actually unambiguously shameful: I basically stopped eating dirt six months sooner than my peers, and was stupid enough to believe this meant something important about me for the next six years.
the #1 problem with "former gifted kid" discourse is it's impossible to do without sounding like a humblebrag
