Doug Ford’s cuts are breaking apart an already fractured legal system. Court delays, cuts to legal aid…

This is more than personal: it’s a systemic failure that’s happening province wide.

Homelessness is a policy choice.
I cannot stress enough that homelessness is caused by policy levers primarily at the provincial level.

And AMO's new report shows it: homelessness in Ontario rose 8% last year, with 85,000 people becoming homeless. 20,000 were youth and children.

Horrifying.

The Canadian Taxpayer Federation getting upset about a $2000 plaque that wasn't taxpayer-funded rather than the austerity that led to a dead raccoon lying on the sidewalk for days without pickup is so indicative of their whole deal.
The city thought Conrad the raccoon deserved a memorial plaque. Now Toronto’s best-known trash panda has become a different kind of symbol
A plaque commemorating one of Toronto’s most famous trash pandas has been singled out as an example of government waste, more than 10 years after its death.

Hello Tim Cook I worked at Tumblr when you gave us 48 hours to get rid of all the consenting, adult boobs. Up all night at your whim, out of the blue. But you're still cool with Twitter and its CSAM and revenge porn and whatever the fuck this is? Why do you even HAVE guidelines?
Previously, several of these companies, like Apple, IBM, and Disney, have paused advertising on X in response to antisemitic content. But antisemitism on X never slowed, sexual abuse imagery increased, and all of these companies quietly resumed advertising anyways.

Why isn't there a bigger Grok boycott?
Advertisers, politicians, and investors are still all-in on X, despite a sexual abuse crisis.

Canadians mad about ICE:

Know that we are complicit and we are vulnerable.

Canada is one of Palantir’s biggest funders, our pensions are tied to Palantir’s business. Which includes supporting ICE, profiting off genocide in Gaza, and human rights violations.

When a company names itself after a mythical foreboding object — take it as a warning
Peter Thiel’s Palantir borrowed its name from The Lord of the Rings, and two decades later, it’s living up to the metaphor by quietly embedding itself in the machinery of government

I have spent the last four years in professional spaces trying to be a voice of reason in the rushed adoption of AI.

No matter how measured my delivery, when I spoke about the proliferation of CSAM already happening with AI people rolled their eyes, told me I was over-reacting, or negative.
Grok is not a source! Grok is not sentient! Grok is a machine woven into the fabric of a social network that made CSAM on-demand!

I have to wonder if the technocrat class obsessed with stories like Lord of the Rings have actually read it.

Central to LOTR is the undeniable fact that ‘ordinary’ beings can make profound change. Kings and wizards can be corrupted, but fellowship endures.

This thread is a good reminder to write your MPP. Some good bullet points here.
If you live in Ontario and rent your home, own your home, bike, take transit, care about the environment, value democracy, don't want water to be privatized, are opposed to surveillance infrastructure... you are going to want to email your MPP about #Bill60: win.newmode.net/fightbill60

Doug Ford is ramming through #Bill60 without public hearings, bundling 16 unrelated laws together so MPPs can't properly debate gutting tenant protections. Send an email to your representative today—our democracy depends on it. win.newmode.net/fightbill60

This is a REALLY important story, Canada. The Carney government's push to AI our entire country is going to hurt so many people and cause SO much damage to our communities. The government isn't doing ANYTHING to try and mitigate the harms data centres are going to cause, either.
