In a just nation kirk would’ve been ostracized from political and cultural discourse the moment he opened his bigoted mouth. Celebrate his death or decry political violence against those with whom you would otherwise disagree. Both are valid. I just wish we never even knew his name.

I know I’ve fallen into the hypernormalization trap on and off over the last 8 years and have been doing my best to resist it. Oddly (or perhaps not), writing fiction has been my best surefire path out of it.

The most striking thing about the LA protests is how many people just dropped everything to show up and yell at federal agents. There are people in suits, and carrying dogs, and wearing flip flops or bike helmets.
