What's so good about Resident Evil is you start with fleeing mid-century gothic terrors and as the night progresses the masks come off and you're blowing up 1990s corporate ghouls with a rocket launcher while discovering you're still living in a company town.

Written in 1957, imagining a nuclear apocalypse of 1963, there is zero boomer nostalgia or yearning for a lost world of The Beatles and Star Wars. It's far more ecologically and existentially minded, renders all other kitschy post-apoc nostalgia trips trivial.

Ugh. I've been irritating myself the past few days referring to an important bit of historical, the ELIZA chatbot. It was able to fully convince the creator's secretary that it was alive and thinking.... in 1966!
We really haven't paid attention to that fact.

I was going to ask if that may have coincided with an increase in bot technology, but that's been a constant process, and they've been good enough to fool some people all the time since ELIZA.
So, maybe increased investment in bots around that time.
